TOKYO, May 27 (AP) - (Kyodo)—Japan and the United States on Thursday launched a dialogue aimed at fostering new businesses and technological innovation, with U.S. Ambassador to Japan John Roos expressing hope that such a move would lead to job creation.
At the outset of the first dialogue meeting in Tokyo, the envoy said innovation and entrepreneurial spirit are the driving forces of job creation, referring to his experience working in a law firm headquartered in Silicon Valley.
Japanese Senior Vice Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Teruhiko Mashiko said the bilateral relationship is important for the economic development of the Asia-Pacific region and called on companies from the two countries to work together in the areas of the environment and energy.
Japan and the United States have been attempting to improve the investment climate in their respective countries under an investment initiative established in 2001, and the just-launched dialogue would be a framework that would replace the initiative, according to the Japanese industry ministry.
