TOKYO, April 27 (AP) - (Kyodo) — Democratic Party of Japan Secretary General Ichiro Ozawa said Tuesday he will remain in his post despite a decision by a judicial review panel earlier in the day that he should be charged over a funds scandal.
"I'm surprised by the unexpected result," Ozawa told reporters in the evening. "I believe the investigative authorities will make an appropriate judgment in the end."
An independent judicial panel said Tuesday it has decided that Ozawa merits indictment over his fund management body's alleged false reporting of political funds from 2004 to 2007.
