US Assistant Secretary of State Kurt Campbell will visit Japan next week to exchange views with senior Japanese officials on the relocation of a US air base in Okinawa.

Assistant Secretary of State Philip Crowley told reporters on Wednesday that Campbell, who is in charge of East Asian and Pacific Affairs, will visit Japan on April 27th and 28th.

He indicated discussions will include a wide range of issues, focusing on the relocation of the US Marine Corps Futenma Air Station in Okinawa.

Also on Wednesday at a news conference State Department spokesman Geoffrey Morrell was asked about the Japanese government's plan to move part of Futenma functions out of Okinawa to neighboring Tokunoshima Island.

He said he doesn't have anything he can share on that specific island and where it stands in discussions within Japan as a Futenma replacement facility.

He said the US government is waiting for the Japanese government to complete their review on the realignment of US forces in the region.
