Ex-Japan Finance Minister Yosano Offers to Leave LDP

    april 3, 2010

Tokyo, April 3 (Jiji Press) -- Former Japanese Finance Minister Kaoru Yosano offered to leave the opposition Liberal Democratic Party on Saturday to form a new political party.

Yosano submitted a letter on the matter when he met with LDP President Sadakazu Tanigaki.

Tanigaki stopped short of persuading Yosano to remain in the party. In the letter, Yosano said, he wants to leave the party on Wednesday.

Yosano told Tanigaki that Hiroyuki Sonoda, former LDP deputy secretary-general, is set to bolt the party.

Yosano is the seventh lawmaker to bolt the LDP since the party was ousted from over five decades of nearly uninterrupted rule in elections last autumn.
