Japan's ambassador to the United States has expressed displeasure over a Washington Post column that said the Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama was the biggest loser at the recent nuclear security summit.
In the paper's Wednesday edition, a columnist wrote that Hatoyama was the biggest loser because he was only able to hold an unofficial meeting with US President Barack Obama.
Ambassador Ichiro Fujisaki told reporters on Thursday he thought it was rather impolite expression to make about the prime minister of a nation. He said he is considering whether to take some kind of action over the article.
Fujisaki denied media reports that Obama showed his distrust and displeasure to Hatoyama during the meeting over the Japanese government's stance on the relocation of the US Marine Corps Futenma Air Station in Okinawa in southern Japan.
Earlier, Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirofumi Hirano also said the column was a bit impolite to the leader of a nation. He said the opportunity for talks with leaders of other countries is important, so even a 10-minute discussion with President Obama was significant.
