    April 7, 2010

Japan's Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama may hold unofficial talks with US President Barack Obama in Washington next week.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirofumi Hirano said on Wednesday that he is assuming the 2 leaders will have the opportunity to talk on the sidelines of the Nuclear Security Summit, although not as an official meeting.

He also said he expects Hatoyama to express Japan's support for Obama's nuclear disarmament initiative, as the leader of the only nation to have suffered atomic bombings.

Hatoyama told reporters on Wednesday that he hopes to explain to Obama the progress of government deliberation on the relocation of the US Futenma Air Station in Okinawa and will seek his understanding.
