Washington, April 12 (Jiji Press) -- Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama told U.S. President Barack Obama on Monday that his country will settle a dispute over a Marine air base by the end of May.
At a working dinner as part of a nuclear security summit here, Hatoyama also asked Obama for cooperation in resolving the dispute involving the Futenma base in Okinawa Prefecture, southern Japan.
Hatoyama made the comments during about 10 minutes of conversations with Obama as he sat next to the U.S. president at the dinner.
While stressing the importance of the Japan-U.S. alliance, Hatoyama told Obama that Japan is making efforts to solve the Futenma issue.
Hatoyama later told reporters that he did not discuss any specific candidate sites for the Futenma relocation during the talks with Obama.
