LDP leaders criticize Masuzoe's secession

    April 22, 2010

Senior LDP members have criticized Masuzoe for leaving the party.

Former chief cabinet secretary Nobutaka Machimura said Masuzoe has put politics into a state of confusion by making a new party for his own gain. Machimura said Masuzoe doesn't understand that what he's doing is actually disturbing the Liberal Democratic Party instead of toppling the ruling Democratic Party.

Former LDP secretary-general Bunmei Ibuki said Masuzoe's departure is good for the party, because he hindered its unity.

LDP Secretary General Tadamori Oshima called for unity at a meeting of the party's legislators on Thursday, saying the most important thing is to stop what he called bad politics by the Democrats.
