Hatoyama apologizes for fund scandal

    April 22, 2010

Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama has apologized to the pubic following Thursday's court ruling, which found his former aide guilty of falsifying political fund records.

Hatoyama told reporters that he feels responsible for what happened, and that he learned lessons that will stay with him for the rest of his life.

Asked if he plans to reveal documents relating to his political funds, Hatoyama said he will make public corrected reports on the falsified documents. But he said he sees no need to disclose all of his fund records, which would violate his privacy.

Hatoyama said it is up to the Diet to ask him to submit the documents, but that he believes there is no need to do so since the court already concluded the case.
