2009/06/25 21:14(JST)Japan's Prime Minister Taro Aso has hinted that he could dissolve the Lower House for a general election before the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly election on July 12.
Speaking at the National Press Club in Tokyo on Thursday, Aso said he has no plan to announce the timing of the dissolution, but that it will come before long.
Asked whether he plans to reshuffle his Cabinet, he said he doesn't think he should to do so immediately.
Regarding a view within the Liberal Democratic Party that the party should push forward its leadership election, he said it would do more harm than good. Because the party controls the Lower House, the party president automatically becomes the prime minister.
Aso said his party has to win the general election to take responsibility for creating a safe society, indicating his willingness to stay in power.
The terms for the Lower House representatives are to expire on September 10th.
