Jun 27 11:43 AM US/EasternTOKYO, June 28 (AP) - (Kyodo) — Prime Minister Taro Aso is mulling dissolving the House of Representatives in mid-July for a general election, ruling coalition lawmakers said Saturday.
Aso is likely to dissolve the lower house after July 12 Tokyo assembly election, paving the way for a general election possibly in early August, the lawmakers said.
On Saturday, Aso indicated an early dissolution in his meeting with Hiroyuki Hosoda, secretary general of his Liberal Democratic Party, as the prime minister instructed Hosoda to promptly finalize key bills such as one on inspections of North Korean cargo vessels and one to revise the Organ Transplant Law.
On Friday, Aso floated the idea of holding a lower house election in early August in his meeting with Akihiro Ota, leader of the New Komeito party, the coalition partner of the LDP, ruling party sources said.
