Jul 25 05:21 AM US/EasternTOKYO, July 25 (AP) - (Kyodo) — Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda is unlikely for the time being to dissolve the House of Representatives for a general election in the face of many policy challenges, such as rising oil prices, Chief Cabinet Secretary Nobutaka Machimura reiterated Friday.
With the four-year terms of lower house members set to expire in September next year, Machimura told a press conference, "The premier will make the decision (on whether or when to dissolve the lower house) at the most appropriate time."
Social security, global warming and consumer administration are other policy tasks that the government needs to address, Machimura said.
