2008/07/29 18:07US Ambassador to Japan, Thomas Schieffer, has expressed the United States hope that Japan will continue its refueling mission in the Indian Ocean.
Schieffer made the comment to reporters after meeting with Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda at his office in Tokyo on Tuesday.
The ambassador said he and Fukuda did not talk about Japan's legislation to enable Maritime Self-Defense Force vessels to refuel multinational force's warships in the Indian Ocean.
Schieffer said the US appreciates Japan's contributions related to Iraq and Afghanistan, and that continuing the refueling mission will make it possible to achieve peace in these countries.
The prime minister and the ambassador discussed issues related to the verification of North Korea's declaration of its nuclear programs and global warming.
