Oct 14 09:11 AM US/EasternTOKYO, Oct. 14 (AP) - (Kyodo) — Political organizations of Yukichi Maeda, a main opposition Democratic Party of Japan member of the lower house, received at least 5.9 million yen from pyramid sales agents between 2005 and 2007 as contributions and lecture fees, according to the political funds reports of the groups.
While pyramid sales have brought about numerous problems for consumers over bids and return of goods, Maeda, elected to the House of Representatives from a proportional representation constituency, has advocated the pyramid selling industry in the Diet and on his homepage.
According to the political funds reports, they received money from pyramid sales agents, including one that was ordered by the government to suspend operations for three months due to its soliciting activities.
