Oct 20 03:29 AM US/EasternTOKYO, Oct. 20 (AP) - (Kyodo) — Some Ground Self-Defense Force internal documents have been found leaked on Internet sites, including the popular "2 Channel" anonymous Japanese bulletin board.
GSDF authorities are questioning a senior member assigned to the force's 13th Brigade based in the town of Kaita, Hiroshima Prefecture, as a document made in his name was included in the information, a GSDF official said Monday.
The information is believed to have been saved on the member's private computer and leaked through the file-sharing application Winny, which had been installed on it, according to the official.
The member, who belongs to the brigade's communications unit, has admitted using the software, the official said, adding that no sensitive information billed as "defense secrets" appear to have been leaked so far.
The Defense Ministry has banned SDF personnel from using Winny or saving work-related data on private computers following a series of incidents involving leakage to the Internet of internal information via SDF members' privately held computers.
The latest leakage contained a folder named "FOC related," which included documents from 2002-2003 that contained an explanation of the GSDF's computing system and a description of the condition of the SDF's communications infrastructure.
FOC is a course designed for career-track SDF members who aspire to become high-ranking commanders, according to the official.
The GSDF member in question was quoted as saying that he had deleted the data that were found leaked.
