Mon Oct 20, 1:29 am ETLOS ANGELES – The lawyer for a Japanese businessman found dead in a jail cell says a pathologist has concluded that the man was killed and did not take his life.
Mark Geragos, a lawyer for Kazuyoshi Miura, says Sunday the pathologist found deep tissue injuries on Miura's back that indicated a beating. He says there's also evidence of a forced choking.
The pathologist, hired by Geragos, concluded the injury could not have been caused by a self-inflicted hanging.
61-year-old Miura was found dead Oct. 10 in his jail cell. Police said he hanged himself with a piece of his shirt after he was returned to the United States to stand trial for the murder of his wife 27 years ago.
