Tokyo, Aug. 20 (Jiji Press) -- The Japanese and U.S. government have basically agreed that a coming report on the relocation of the U.S. Marine Corps' Futenma air station in Okinawa Prefecture, southern Japan, will include two options regarding the configuration of a newfacility to take over the base's functions, it was learned Friday.
One of the two options calls for constructing two runways aligned in a V shape in the Henoko coastal area in Nago, also Okinawa, based on the original plan agreed on between the two countries in 2006.
The other option is for building a single runway in the same area based on the request from the Democratic Party of Japan-led government. The Futenma base is now located in the city of Ginowan.
The report will be drawn up by experts from the two countries.
The two governments are set to hold detailed talks on the matter in Tokyo next week and announce the report possibly on Aug. 30, informed sources said.
