The Japanese government will open an extraordinary Diet session on Friday, the first since the recent Upper House election.
During the 8-day session, the Diet will elect a new president and vice president of the Upper House.
Budget committees of both Upper and Lower Houses will also meet for the first time since Prime Minister Naoto Kan took office.Opposition members are expected to call for an early dissolution of the Lower House for general elections.
Opposition parties hold an Upper House majority, since the main government Democratic Party took heavy losses in the elections earlier this month.
