Court bans protest against The Cove near cinema

A Japanese court has banned an activist group from staging protests against the US documentary The Cove near a theater that plans to screen the movie.

The Yokohama district court handed down the ruling on Thursday against a Tokyo-based group which demanded the cancellation of the film.

The Cove won this year's Academy Award for Best Documentary by depicting critically the annual dolphin hunt in Taiji Town, Wakayama Prefecture.

The ruling prohibits the group from holding demonstrations within 100 meters of the Yokohama New Theatre.

Earlier this month, the group staged a rally in front of the cinema, saying hidden cameras were used in the filming and that it depicts only one side of the dolphin hunt.
