TORONTO, June 27 (AP) - (Kyodo) — The following is the gist of talks between Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan and U.S. President Barack Obama in Toronto on Sunday.
-- Kan and Obama reaffirmed that the Japan-U.S. security alliance is a cornerstone of peace and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region.
-- Kan pledged to make serious efforts to relocate the U.S. Marine Corps' Futenma Air Station in Okinawa and sought U.S. cooperation in alleviating base-hosting burdens on local residents in the prefecture.
-- Kan and Obama agreed to work toward reducing burdens on Okinawans.
-- Obama denounced the sinking of a South Korean warship for which North Korea has been found responsible, saying such an act is unacceptable.
-- Kan said he plans to visit the United States in September when a U.N. General Assembly meeting will be held.
