Photos and items, related to Japan's first diplomatic mission to the United States 150 years ago, are being put on display at a New York museum.
The 1860 delegation from the Tokugawa shogunate government went to the US to exchange papers for a bilateral treaty.
The Museum of the City of New York gave a media preview of the exhibition on Thursday, one day before the public opening.
The items include US and Japanese flags that one of the representatives took home with him. Also on display is a Japanese sword presented to a member of the US Navy.
The photos also offer glimpses of how the 80-member delegation spent their time in New York City.
One picture shows the delegates in traditional samurai clothing, bearing swords. Another photo shows the members parading along Broadway, decorated with the flags of both countries, and receiving a warm welcome.
