TOKYO, June 27 (AP) - (Kyodo) — Democratic Party of Japan Secretary General Yukio Edano showed willingness Sunday to forge a policy partnership with Your Party after the July 11 upper house election.
The ruling party and the tiny opposition party are "pretty much in accord on administrative reform and a reform of the civil service," Edano told reporters in Tokyo's Mitaka, which he visited as part of a stumping tour for the upcoming election. "I expect them to make a judgment based on policies and act with us."
Edano also said when he spoke at a recording of a Nippon BS Broadcasting program the same day that the DPJ will try to join hands with opposition parties that share certain policies with it regardless of the outcome of the House of Councillors election.
"Even if (the DPJ) is given stable power in both chambers of the Diet, we will adopt opinions for each policy item from parties that have similar ideas to our own, and will try to make progress by obtaining a consensus from a broad multitude of people," he said.
The DPJ holds a comfortable majority in the lower house but has relied on cooperation from coalition partner the People's New Party in securing a majority in the upper house.
Specifically, Edano said the DPJ's ideas on administrative reform are close to Your Party, those on restoring fiscal health close to the Sunrise Party of Japan, and those of labor issues similar to the Social Democratic Party.
