Japan's Prime Minister Naoto Kan has said that he urged the Group of Eight leaders to clearly condemn North Korea for its alleged sinking of a South Korean vessel to prevent such an act from being repeated.
Kan, speaking to reporters on Saturday, said the leaders endorsed his opinion and agreed to include the condemnation of the North in the G8 statement. He emphasized that this was not just to support South Korea but was very important for Japan as well.
Kan said he also asked for members' support on the abduction of Japanese nationals by North Korea.On the economy, Kan said he explained the need to realize a strong economy, fiscal health and social security in an integrated manner.
He believes the G8 leaders understood his opinions and mutual trust has deepened.
