(AP) - TORONTO, June 27 (Kyodo) — Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan and U.S. President Barack Obama agreed Sunday that the security alliance between the two countries is a cornerstone of peace and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region.
During their first face-to-face talks held on the fringes of the Group of 20 summit, Kan indicated he will visit the United States in September when a U.N. General Assembly meeting will be held.
Kan also told Obama that it is important for the two countries to deepen their alliance further.
Obama denounced the sinking of a South Korean warship in March for which North Korea has been found responsible, saying such an act is unacceptable.
